Kandaketiya Regional Council established on the basis of Kandaketiya Divisional Secretariat located in the Badulla District of Uva Province. It has been introduced as Kivulegedara Village Council in the past. Under the Local Council Act No. 15 of 1987, the village council was established as Kandaketiya Local Council. The fact that the village of Kiulegedara, the birthplace of the hero Kiulegedara Mohottala, who provided local leadership to the Uva Wellassa Rebellion in 1818, is located in our council area adds importance to this area.
